Road Cycling

Paigan Marshall has been selected in the Southland Cycling team to complete in the National Road Cycling Championships at the end of April / start of May.

Wai Tri Results 2010

Josh Watson was placed second in the Novice Individual Duathlon.

Terry Thurlow was placed fifth in the Year 7 & 8 Individual Duathlon.

Tim and Conor O'Neill won the Year 7 & 8 Team Duathlon.


Southland Junior Schools Swimming Championships

Well done to the Verdon contingent who competed with credit at the Southland Junior Schools Swimming Championships held on Sunday 28 March at Splash Palace. Outstanding performances were achieved by two year 7's - Liam Cullen and Olivia Thornbury who dominated the boys and girls 11 year old age group.

Speedway Winner

Congratulations to Hayden Sims for winning the Southland Championship in the 200cc Solo Speedway bike in the junior class over the weekend. Hayden also came second at the beginning of March at the Canterbury Junior Championship.

After breaking a hand at the beginning of the season, he has finished off on a high note by winning the last three meetings held at Oreti Park Speedway - including taking maximum points at the two previous meetings before the weekend. Well done Hayden.

Congratulations

To Ashleigh MacDougall who has been accepted for the Oceania Games for weightlifting. These are being held in Fiji during May.

To Teegan Goodall who came 2nd in the 400m race at the Otago/Southland Athletics Championships during last weekend. Teegan also finished 5th in the 200m final and has qualified for the South Island Championships in Dunedin this weekend.

Radio Southland Open Day

Radio Southland are holding an open day on 9 April from 9.30a.m. - 4 p.m. If you are interested in broadcasting please see Mrs More at the Careers Office.

Athletics Sports Day

This is now scheduled for Thursday 4 March 2010. If the day is cancelled due to wet weather, it will be on all the radio students at 7 a.m. on Thursday morning. Students meet at Surrey Park at 9 a.m. and the day finishes at 3 p.m. sharp. The following applies to bus students:

City Buses will pick up and drop off at Surrey Park i.e. Waikiwi, Windsor, Clarendon and Clifden.

Country Buses - Al buses that leave from the Hargest Junior Campus, the Bluff bus and the Otatara bus will pick up and drop off at Surrey Park.
If your bus drops off and leaves from Onslow Street - there will be a bus to take students from Onslow Street to Surrey Park and back. This bus will leave Surrey Park at 3.05 p.m. sharp.

University Games

Southland UniGames 2010- April 13-16th

Despite not having a University in Invercargill, Southland has the privilege of hosting the University Games 2010.

The UniGames are famous for providing a friendly, yet competitive environment for everyone who is involved. This atmosphere has developed the UniGames into NZ’s premier University Sports Event.

With 15 Tertiary Institutions involved, 1200-1500 competitors, and 24 sports, we need your help!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Uni Games and are extremely important to ensure this event can take place in a safe and efficient manner. It is our aim to create a positive, rewarding and enjoyable experience for all volunteers involved.

Giving the athletes and their teams a real Southland experience through enthusiastic volunteers from the Southland community will be critical to its success.

You may want to count this toward your Duke of Edinburgh, Champagnat service award or you may just simply want to be involved!
